PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
DePaul’s Strategy, Execution, and Valuation (SEV) concentration is designed for MBA candidates destined for higher levels of corporate management, management consulting, investment banking, equity research, money management and entrepreneurs. This quintessential and innovative MBA concentration makes the connection between business strategy, execution and value creation. It prepares Kellstadt students to make a significant impact on the future of their organizations and in their careers. The concentration immerse MBA candidates in the knowledge and skills that support business strategy, the seamless connection necessary between strategy and execution, including strategic risk management and advanced applications for bridging strategic analysis to forecasts and valuation. The program applies the Return Driven Strategy framework which describes the pattern of strategic activities of high performance companies to enable MBA candidates to evaluate business strategy and strategic initiatives and develop the valuable skill of strategic thinking. The innovative seminar courses in the program include presentations by executives and thought leaders to provide insight on the leading practices in strategy, execution and strategic valuation.
CURRICULUM
The SEV concentration is comprised of three seminar courses, focused on practical application. Students must complete the following three courses:
Return Driven Strategy (SEV 611)

SEV 611: Return Driven Strategy (Fall 2011) In this course, Kellstadt students have the opportunity to engage in real world case research on high performance companies. The course is based on the Return Driven Strategy framework (www.returndriven.com) which describes guidelines for designing, developing, and evaluating business strategy aimed at maximum, long-term wealth creation. Fall 2011 (September 30, October 1, October 14, 15 (9:00am-4:30pm)
SEV 641: Strategic Valuation (Fall 2011) –This course surveys valuation methods, forecasting techniques, and practical methods for driving valuations from strategic corporate analysis. The course shows the link between strategic analysis and valuations - converting our qualitative understanding of company initiatives into quantitative forecasts and valuation models. The guiding principles for developing valuation models, and the tools and techniques for enhancing that analysis are introduced. This course builds a skillset for evaluating other valuation models and a first-hand experience in building models for various companies in differing settings. The course differs from traditional treatments in its focus on the actual building of valuation models directly from financial statements and the valuation projects based on real-time data. Fall 2011 (October 7, 8, 21, 22 (9:00am-4:30pm)
SEV 621: Strategy Execution (Decmber Intersession 2011) – The course examines strategic performance measurement, including the balanced scorecard and value-based management as frameworks for describing and executing strategy. We will study how high performance companies measure and manage performance, strategic risk, and corporate sustainability performance, as well as the ethical dimension of strategy and execution. This course is taught by Dr. Mark L. Frigo, Director of the Center for Strategy, Execution and Valuation and Richard Anderson, Clinical Professor of Risk Management. (This course is accepted as a core course the SEV Concentration and can be used as course in the Management Accounting and Financial Planning and Control Concentrations).
